Designer Philosophy

Our designs are meant to be felt. By 'felt', we refer not only to the sense of touch, but to the way our work is perceived through all the senses. An oiled hot-rolled steel wall or a heavily waxed leather floor, for example, appeals not only visually but also to the physical senses of scent and sound. Equally, they engage the mental sense of perception - the metal appearing firm yet warm; the leather floor using a familiar material in an unconventional manner. We do more than provide amenity and elegance: In balancing the conventional with the unexpected and innovative, we stimulate the way in which spaces are perceived. Our intention is to heighten the sense and pleasure of living.Each of our projects is different. They are the result of the unique circumstances of the needs and desires of the client taken together with the specificity of the site and budget. Completed projects range in scale from toilet paper roll holders to commercial spaces.Our design methodology is at once intuitive and theoretical: It places as much emphasis on the process as it does on the result. We draw from an understanding and appreciation of historical precedents and contemporary culture. We are guided by the wishes of the client and informed by our collaboration with many skilled craftspeople. The goal of our work is to create a mood or character. We do not create forms or compositions; we shape experiences.
