Textiles 101 presents designers with the opportunity to learn about the textile process, enabling them to make the best textile choices for their installations. The course familiarizes participants with animal, plant and synthetic fibers. It covers yard production and types as well as a variety of dye processes. Detailed information and fabrics is presented, including basic weave constructions and special techniques. Fabric characteristics and application guidelines are also discussed. Hundreds of illustrations and physical examples of fibers, yarns, textiles and installations are incorporated into the course. Each participant receives an illustrated glossary of textile terms. Please join Niermann Weeks for a presentation on the process of developing and executing custom lighting and furniture designs. We will show a variety of model drawings and finished samples from our archives to illustrate the step by step development of custom pieces. Also, we will demonstrate some of the beading and finishing techniques used on Niermann Weeks products. We encourage you to bring specific questions and ideas about your unique designs and projects for discussion.
