This room is inspired by cable knits. It is designed with comfort and grace in mind. Cable knits bring to mind a time of year when it’s more exciting to look your best, that time when the weather is perfect to layer clothing, to sit outside and relax, but to be content to stay in and luxuriate with a throw and a book. Colors are mature and muted, like the softness of fog, seen in crème, camel and grays. Blacks, browns and reds are used to give weight and definition to the surroundings.

I think of chic comfort, of a dressing up and paring down.  With that, there is a slight Asian undertone, with a contemporary American flair. The theme inspired me to use crewel, loose weaves, a cable floor design and accents such as a canopy, line drawings and a commissioned loose knit throw. Other accents were inspired by the idea of fashion itself, of the vanity and reflective beauty, so there are lots of mirrored surfaces that compliment the textures and matte finishes.

As there is layering, pattern, and yet simplicity in a good cable knit, I hope that these concepts come through in the exterior and interior entry ways.
