Room Inspiration: Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander McQueen and Versace

Each of my fashion designers that inspired my room is wildly different from one another. Narcisco Rodriguez offered subtle intensity with fresh pretty clothes. His collection can best be characterized as simple and modern.

Alexander McQueen was perhaps the most inspirational to me. His runway collection was futuristic. McQueen was heavy on the drama and fantasy of fashion. His silhouettes were very tailored and expressive.

Moving onto the legendary house of Versace, the fall collection was sophisticated and glamorous while still being fun and fresh. One of the things I love most about Donatella Versace is that her collections have never been literal.

The designers that provided my inspiration do not use signature prints or patterns as a trademark of their work. Instead each of these designers used trademark interpretations of femininity, modernity and glamour.
I chose to be less literal in my interpretation of “Turn Up the Turquoise.” The fashion inspirations for my room utilized turquoise to highlight volume or to draw the eye to a particular shape. Overall the palettes were neutral and very geometric.

In the room I designed you should notice that the colors chosen are very fresh. I wanted to draw your eyes to the fantastic curves of the seating arrangement. I used color to enhance the character and depth of the room. Overall I think the room evokes a very glamorous and modern feel and makes each occupant feel stylish.

Dominique Alexander, City Style Interiors

Dominique Alexander was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and graduated in 1999. Before opening his boutique residential design business Dominique worked extensively in the fashion and beauty industries.

In 1998 Dominique began working for Jeffrey Kalinsky, the owner and Creative Director of Jeffrey New York. Dominique credits Jeffrey with exposing him to a world of fashion many could only dream of. While working for Jeffrey, he was placed at the forefront of haute couture retailing and merchandising. Fashion, art and design were daily disciplines that Dominique learned from the ground up.

Later Dominique worked for w makeup’s doyenne, Trish McEvoy. After a year of working for Trish, Dominique became a National Artist for the company and traveled the country providing detailed demonstrations and explaining the philosophy of the brand in many of America’s most exclusive retail markets.

Being formally trained in the discipline of interior design and after working for the two successful creative geniuses, Dominique was compelled to take these experiences and open his own business here in Washington, D.C. Since doing so he has never looked back. Presently he has designed homes throughout Washington, Miami, New York City and the Caribbean. His body of work spans many genres while always being characterized as unique and sophisticated. He enjoys making the modern more classic and the classic more modern.
