SCW Interiors creates livable spaces that are truly unique to each client's lifestyle and personal tastes. Their interiors include an unexpected element as they strive to move away from formulaic design. One constant is their commitment to sustainable materials and longevity. Based in Alexandria, Va., SCW enjoys residential and commercial design projects. They try to relate each project to its natural environment in which they bring the outside in and provide a balance between organic materials and the use of luxurious elements. Their projects range from small scale interior renovations to new construction collaborations with a variety of clients. The principal, Shazalynn Cavin-Winfrey is a native Texan with a lifelong passion for design. After graduating from UT and the Culinary Institute of America, she spent time at Parsons School of Design. Growing up in a family of artists and designers provided constant exposure and stimulation for a future in creative endeavors. Family lore describes Cavin-Winfrey as a child: drawing intricate details of a room, organizing collections and arranging vignettes so that they were pleasing to her eye. A lover of art, Cavin-Winfrey spends her free time in the galleries and museums of Santa Fe, New Mexico where she has a small client base as well. It is not uncommon for SCW to build a room around works of art that range from a simple child's drawing to a major acquisition, which they have helped to find. They are constantly seeking the unique item that creates the perfect juxtaposition in a space. Driven by a love of surprises, they try to make the spaces as unpredictable as possible. This is often what takes the space from beautiful to personal. |
