Where does design inspiration come from? When asked, Gloria de Lourdes Blalock explains, "I am inspired by everyday objects mostly found in nature: the flat cool surface of river rocks, the organic shapes of tree branches, and the color of the sky at daybreak. It is from nature that I derive my most satisfying arrangements and compositions. By bringing the outside-in, I find unique methods to unify materials and concepts into cohesive, inspired rooms. My preference is to mix of old and new in equal measure. Incorporating pieces from different eras yields multi dimensional, dynamic interiors." Blalock's designs balance space, form, color and texture with comfort and active living. Admired for her eclectic nature and artistic eye, clients frequently comment on her ease in blending unexpected sculptural elements and warm, inviting pieces. While concentrating in the Metro D.C. area, recent projects have included second homes and weekend retreats in Virginia's 'Horse Country,' Park City, Utah, Palm Beach, and Miami. Blalock explains, "Often clients seek my advice for a particular space or for a color consultation. Then, next thing I know I am asked to transform the entire house, and then a second or even third home. It is very rewarding when this happens." Blalock founded Blalock Interiors LLC in May 2008. From 2003–2008, Blalock co-owned Territory, a design boutique located in Old Town, Alexandria. With a background in Architecture and English Literature, this Cuban born designer took up residence in Washington, D.C., in 1993. "Although my passion for design has kept me in design circles for many years," she says, "it is during the last four that my career has gone into 'overdrive' and that my most fulfilling projects have taken place." Blalock Interiors LLC is a custom interior design firm specializing in residential and light commercial spaces. Blalock Interiors is committed to delivering clients the highest possible professional services from vision development though project realization. |
