Green With Envy Library

The inspiration for this room was drawn from the title itself. The color Green has long been associated with youth, growth and a sense of renewal that only spring-time can invoke. This sense of freshness was the goal in redefining this library, much unlike the heavy, dark libraries of previous generations.

In many homes these days, a library is a multi-function room. It is a space used for reading, meditation, writing, or a thought-provoking after-dinner cocktail with a friend. The primary goal was to create a refuge that was fresh and soothing, but spark creativity and conversation, while maintaining the air of luxury and confidence: a private retreat all your over-worked friends and neighbors would envy…

Custom bookcases and millwork are the strong architectural features in this room, softened by the upholstered wall panels of a Donghia silk. Soft, neutral, clean lined, upholstered pieces by Charles Ray provide the base layer of comfort; decorative pillows and drapes, add a bold graphic element to the space; while a grouping of Objets d’art sets the tone.

"Great design is not only a smart space plan or creative combination of color, texture, pattern and scale. While these are very important factors, successful interior design involves much more. It involves appealing to our client's innermost thoughts and feelings, invoking whatever emotion is desired, whether it be serenity, calmness, drama, or excitement. When I can create a space that evokes such emotion, only then do I feel it is a successful design." This has been the guiding principle for DePina, whom with the help of her small design team, has created environments described as "Sophistication without pretense."
