Camille Saum

Sassy Sorbet Entry Way

We are promoting Camille's favorite, the Fox Chair by Karges & Caron, which Camille has been working with for a long time. That chair has now been given the name Camille chair. Hines is now going to carry upholstered Karges & Caron furniture. This will be Camille's way of promoting this new upholstery line by showcasing this chair. It will be a premiere of a Hines fabric on the Camille Chair.

We are upholstering the Camille Chair with a vibrant Malabar fabric donated by Hines Show Room. The legs are being painted amontillado (a golden yellow) so to create a fun contrast with the tango red printed fabric. We are also painting the area with bold horizontal stripes alternating amontillado and tango red colors. The doors leading into the Show House will be colored seaglass (a turquoise derivative) with amontillado patterns stenciled on top of the seaglass coat. The pipes and vents will have an ambrosia base coat with a faux finish to add a slight design detail.

The focal point will be the actual Camille Chair, which will be spotlighted on a double platform painted with 5" stripes. An area Seagrass rug painted amontillado and bound with 3"-wide red banding matching the tango red will be laid at the door. On the right wall will be displayed one painting of the Camille Chair made on a canvas set to duplicate the setting's colorful atmosphere. The painting's frame has horizontal stripes matching the wall and is approximately 20"x20" with a 14"x14" opening.

About Camille Saum

"Good design is timeless." This has been the guiding principle behind Camille Saum's commercial and residential design success. For more than twenty years, Saum has created a myriad of environments with elements that range from quaint and romantic warmth to refined and practical elegance. National and local acclaim have created a demand for Saum's "timeless designs." Her discerning private and commercial clients find their goals met in rooms of distinction, high style and comfort. The ability to turn her client's visions into unique expressions that illuminate their lifestyle has established Saum's reputation as a noted design professional. She brings her sophisticated designs to life with an unerring sense of and texture mixed with her characteristic flair for surprising, opulent, dramatic, and even whimsical touches.

Most recently, Saum worked behind the scenes with the International Spy Museum to help create an exhibit called "Operation Spy," which opened in September 2007. This project called for entire rooms to be invented and transformed, creating a secretive far eastern Minister's office, a Moroccan style hidden safe house, a fugitive back alley for quick escapes, and even a rumbling surveillance truck.

Saum's work has been regularly featured in prominent national design magazines and periodicals, including: The Washington Post, Traditional Home, Potomac Life, Home & Design, Decorator's Show House, DC Modern Luxury, and Walls and Windows. She has also contributed to several books, including Better Homes and Gardens Romantic Style, the Designer Showcase "Interior Design at its best," and Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Basics.

A regular participant and exhibitor in regional show houses, Saum has consistently designed eye-catching rooms that creatively step away from the norm. A bedroom she designed for the Alexandria Decorator Showhouse was nominated for inclusion in the "Ten Best House House Rooms." Saum and two of her rooms were featured on the Channel 5/FOX Morning News live broadcast at the 2006 National Symphony Orchestra's Decorator's Show House. She also participates in the Georgetown Jingle fundraiser, a benefit for pediatric programs at Georgetown University Hospital. The holiday tree that Camille designed was featured in the Northwest Current as a highlight of the event.

"Good design is timeless. It is a thoughtful blending of styles, mood and function that creates surroundings that outlast trends."
