Social Living Room
Georgetown represents the ultimate fusion of history's beauty and the excitement of now. Vivid colors, full of life and energy, defined by people?there's a life force running along the brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets and charming federal style row houses that fuels today's vigorous heartbeat of historical Georgetown. It's a force I sought to capture in this eclectic design space.
As the lead interior designer with Artesian Associates, a national award-winning, cutting-edge architectural Design/Build firm, I am honored to have been chosen to design the Georgetown living room.
The living room: a place to gather, converse, indulge in the arts, enjoy the finer things in life and party!
Upon entering my living room, you’ll be drawn to an amazing mosaic water wall representing, from TSI/Exterior Wall Systems and City Arts, artist Latoya’s interpretation of the continual ebb and flow of the Potomac.
Enjoying the sensual qualities of flowing water, you can “hang” in the conversation pit, where metallic laser cut leather chairs surround a one of a kind ELEMENTS Napolitano coffee table designed exclusively by Robert James. And not to be missed, flanking the main entrance are two Signature Custom Cabinetry library and bar units that serve as the home for Nahman Artistry's The Bulldog, which is the famed Georgetown Hoyas amulet!
Pulling you deeper into the room is the mysterious, enveloping blue color skillfully applied in a multi-layered process by Walls of Wonder. The varying hues of azurite to lapis blue reveal themselves through the artistry of Walls of Wonder and are complemented by Deb Watson’s trompe l’oeil of a “discovered” antique street map of Georgetown. You’ll also notice two photographic fine art prints by James Roy that capture classic images of Georgetown shot only four weeks ago. I hope you’ll recall Georgetown’s famed Blues Alley, as you enjoy warm and cool jazz tones on a player piano provided by the Piano Man, a select local dealer of art case baby grand pianos. As you circle around and absorb my Georgetown living room, the wall that stands on its own is home to Alex Turco’s “American Life” an original mixed media on leather that pays tribute to America’s darlings, Betsy Ross and Marilyn Monroe.
Always changing, always evolving, helping to weave the fabric of American perfection and still revering its exceptional history, Georgetown has definitely mastered what I call the art of living! Enjoy Georgetown … watch out though, it can give you the fever!
